Heart “Stained Glass” Kids DIY
Hey friends! Whew. What a week around here. I’ve been meaning to pop in and share this sweet little DIY that A and I did this week for Valentine’s Day and I’m just now finding a moment to get it on here. We had such fun with this sweet little project and it took no time at all. My favorite part? Hearts really aren’t seasonal so we can leave it up all year long. I mean, who doesn’t need an extra dose of love all year around? We’ve done several contact paper projects because they are fun, easy, and give the look of stained glass when hung in the window – which I personally think is darling. It’s also a great sensory project for little ones since the paper is so tacky! So, at birthdays or other holidays I usually keep the tissue paper from bagged gift because it’s perfect. Streamers work great too. Look at this sweet little project:
What you need:
- Contact Paper
- Construction Paper – two pieces
- Tissue Paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Ribbon or yarn
What you do:
- Cut out your contact paper and stick it to the window. with a piece of tape and tear pieces of your tissue paper and streamers. Then stick to the contact paper.
- Once the contact paper is covered, cut a second piece to stick on top. This creates a smooth side on both sides and keeps the streamers and tissue paper in the middle. Really, if you are tight on contact paper you could skip this step.
- Take one piece of your construction paper and fold in half. Cut out the outside perimeter of your heart, the cut the middle at the width that you would like. You have your first heart. From the center piece of your first heart cut another heart center – this is your second heart. Do this step one more time for a third heart.
- Take your second piece of construction paper and use your first heart as a guide to cut out the heart. Repeat for the second and third heart.
- Now you have two sets of hearts – one for the front of your heart and one for the back. Use the large edge of your hearts to trace and cut your contact paper. When you trace it, cut the actual contact paper heart a little smaller than the full size.
- Once all three contact paper hearts are cut out glue the edges of the hearts on one side for all three hearts. Add your ribbon down the middle and add a dab of glue on the top of and the bottom of the heart where you would like to secure your ribbon to hold the ribbon in place.
- Add glue to the second side to complete your two sided construction paper hearts.
- Let Dry and Hang in your window!
