Little Readers: Bookroo
Reading is a cornerstone of our home. Having children that loved to read was something we hoped would happen and I’m lucky to say that’s exactly what happened. If the kids are quiet, we usually find them quietly sitting somewhere either together or apart reading. When we sit to read with them they’ll sit for as long as we are able to read bringing book after book after book.
We store books in the playroom, they are stashed in the living room, the car, their rooms, and even in the bathroom sometimes. Having a variety of books is really important to our family because we want our children to experience a variety of book types – fiction, non-fiction, Christian, imaginative, silly, scientific. The value that comes within having a library of books is invaluable to us. 
We recently collaborated with Bookroo, a subscription book box aimed at little readers, and I’m extremely impressed. We got two book boxes. The books arrived in a fun Bookroo box and each book was wrapped beautifully. The kids felt like they were opening up presents which added even more excitement to the box!
One box came with 2 picture books and the other box came with 3 board books. The books were well picked and offered a very nice variety. The picture books were perfect for A right now. One book that is a great book for starter readers, few words, easy to remember and interactive fun. The other was a fun spin on class Mother Goose stories. The board books had a great variety, as well. Two of the books were flap books – one peekaboo and one numbers, and the second was a basic board book for animal noises. I love having a variety of books for B with board books.

Our Picture Book Box Featuring 2 Titles
Mother Goose’s Pajama Party
This book is so fun and an excellent spin on the Mother Goose rhymes we all know. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful and the story is well written. All of the Mother Goose characters are blended together to make this fun story about Mother Goose’s Pajama party! Everyone is invited – yes, all the favorites: Little Miss Muffet, The Hey Diddle Diddle Characters, Diddle Diddle Dumpling, the Crooked Man, Georgie Porgie and more – to Mother Goose’s house! The book is fun and rhythmic. It’s fun for the kids but its also fun for the adults with the timeless rhymes we’ve all grown up with and love.
At the end of the book all of the timeless 15 ,Mother Goose rhymes are listed in the back of the book so the kids can correlate the characters from the rhymes to the ones in the story. There are the basic ones our kids already know like “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and ones that even I forgot about like Simple Simon.
A Dog is A Dog
A Dog is a Dog is a fun rhythmic dog that goes through the different behaviors of a dog, cat, squid, and a moose. The illustrations in the book help the kids see what’s coming next and become a part of the story. Within the story the children learn about the different types of actions the animals, some silly and some fun. You get to the end of the book and it closes with a dog again showing the dog was playing dress up of the other animals in the story!
This book is also an excellent book for new readers with it’s minimal word count on each page. Our kids love chiming in on the animal that comes next in the story because they remember and find it fun to join the fun!

Peekaboo! in the Jungle
This 6 page board book is super fun for little ones! It features a Tiger, Parrot, Monkey, Frog, and Crocodile. Your little one will “find” the animal doing an action natural to their animal type (like jumping or squawking). Little ones feel like they are just playing peekaboo but they are also learning basic actions of the animals! Learning through interactive fun is always a win. The flaps open horizontally giving a nice long flap for your little one to enjoy.
When I find B reading the story to himself I hear him repeating to animal type and giving the animal noise that accompanies the animal on the page! I love having books he feels like he is reading and has an additional dynamic to the book that he adds when he’s “reading” it himself.
Animal Noises
This 12 page board book is very bright and colorful keeping the attention of even the littlest readers with it’s patterns within the illustrations with the animals. The appeal of the book is the creative element of limited colors that aren’t realistic to typical animals but bright. All of the animals featured in the story are featured in their environment (owls in trees, cats playing with yarn, etc.) accompanied by their animals noises.
This book allows you to expand on the noises of the animals and work through the colors featured on the pages. The book is a basic board book so if you need your little one to “read” for a little while you don’t have to worry about any flaps accidentally getting torn from eager hands.
Numbers
This flap book takes your little one through numbers 1-10. Each flap opens vertically and has fun on each page. Each number shows them two different examples of the numbers. For example, “2. Two Stars and…” (top of flap) “Two Rocket Ships” (under flap.) The flap item is shown as a fun cut out on the number flap displaying the numerical number and the written number, under the flap reveals an illustration. The top of the flap corresponds with the illustration underneath, as well.
I love the variety that this flap book offers teaching them the written and numerical display of the numbers. The added texture element of the cutouts with the visual fun of the patterns the underneath illustration adds to the top illustration and the illustration itself adds a lot to the book, as well.
The Value of Bookroo.
With the popularity of subscription book boxes, I really wanted to know what was going to set Bookroo apart. As a consumer you have a lot of options these days of where to put your money with subscription boxes. From the moment we received our book boxes in the mail with the box presentation of the branded box. The branding makes it easily recognizable for your little one to be excited their monthly box has arrived. Like I mentioned above, when your little one opens the box they will find their books are wrapped up. Who doesn’t love opening up opening presents?! Once they unwrap their surprise books they’ll discover their new titles to enjoy!
Not only do my children love their new books and pull them out constantly to read, I’m impressed with the selections in the box. I feel like Bookroo is intentional when selecting their books for your children. All of the books we received are versatile, fun, and I see us reading time and time again over the years. In fact, the Bookroo FAQ page explains how they select their books,

How Bookroo Works + What it CostsEach month your Bookroo box will ship about the 15th of each month. You receive a tracking number once it ships so you’ll be able to see exactly when it’s arriving. Just like a magazine subscription, your little one will receive their box right around the same time each month.
Bookroo offers monthly options and packages to purchase several months at a time to help your save money, as well. The month-to-month option is $17.99 per month (+$5 s&h) which I believe to be a good value. Our suggested retail for the three board books was $22.97 combined together. Our hard back books suggested retail for the books are $32.97 combined. That said, I feel like having them selected for me and sent to me + the personalized touches are worth the investment if you are looking for an awesome subscription to share with your children!
