We’ve Got Some #OrangeChickenLove Going On

We love making sure that at least once a month we go out and do something fun for a day as a family that is out of the normal routine.  Sometimes it’s more extravagant than others.  This last weekend we went about an hour south to knock some things off our to do list that were in that area.  We had errands to run and we planned in our trip to go take the kiddos somewhere fun (snapshots of that coming this week!) and go out for lunch. Since having kiddos (and moved 20 miles away from the largest city) , we don’t nearly go out to eat as much as we used to so when we do it’s always a bit of a special occasion.

One of the biggest things is finding somewhere to go that we can all find something that we like – us and miss A – and that we don’t feel like is super “fast food” like. With our young, growing family going in and sitting down, waiting to be seated and ordering food and then more waiting, isn’t really at the top of our list of things we love doing. As with most things, we do love supporting little small restaurants but sometimes there’s just some comfort and stability in going to a familiar brand, knowing you know will have great food and a laid back environment. This last weekend, that was Panda Express for us. Our family loves Chinese food!
We know that we love Panda Express‘ food (we have gone there many times over the years) and just knew that A would love something there too. If nothing else we knew the Chow Mein, the Fried Rice and Cheese Wontons were guaranteed things she loves. Ryan and I knew we wanted the Orange Chicken, it’s rich and delicious with a bit of spice. Delicious. (A got the Honey Walnut Shrimp by the way and that’s delicious too, totally won the kiddo over!) We knew that the spice of the Orange Chicken wouldn’t appeal to her but that was okay – that’s just meant more for us! I mean, who doesn’t love Orange Chicken?  It’s no wonder that 285,000 people per day order Orange Chicken.

In fact, did you know that Panda Express just launched something super fun and different? A Orange Chicken Food Truck that is touring the US. I’m not even kidding. How fun is that? Food Trucks + a familiar brand of Chinese food that everyone loves highlighting their most loved product? Genius. They are hitting some super awesome events in 8 different cities, including Denver this coming Saturday the 29th at the Tailgate at the Game. The events sound like a lot of fun filled with free food – can you say FREE Orange Chicken & Waffles at some tour stop locations – mmmhmm!! – free swag, giveaways and more.  You can find out if they are coming to a city near you by going here.  If you do go to an event, I would love to hear (and see!) all about it. The events sound like a ton of fun!

After our delicious lunch we had a blast at a local splash pad (a post full of snapshots coming soon, promise!) and park, wrapped up a couple errands while we were out and about then enjoyed a relaxing evening at home.  It was a glorious Saturday that was just about perfect weather wise, too!

How was your weekend? What is your go-to familiar restaurant brand? Do you love Orange Chicken too?
