Fourth on the Field 2017

The Fourth of July felt a little different for us this year. There was the bitterness of missing past traditions when we were in Colorado. The past several years we would spend it with my grandma and granddad with a cookout and fireworks. It was an extra time added to the recent list of missing grandma as I made the list for our Fourth dinner.

There was a sweetness is trying to discover the new things to experience here in PA for the holiday as just our sweet little family. We scoured the local events and found ourselves drawn to an event at our local minor league ballpark. Every year Coca-Cola Field (fun fact: its the only field that Coca-Cola sponsors!) has even called “Fourth on the Field”. There isn’t a game but the field is filled with vendors and activities. Once dark hits there is fireworks. The event is $6 each (3 and under free) and parking is $5. We decided it was a good place to go this year.

We made up an early dinner of Gouda filled hamburgers, corn, and watermelon. It was all the familiar flavors of past get togethers with my grandparents but there was a sweetness about that. I exchanged a few texts with my granddad about the holiday and we talked about how much we missed each other and he wished nothing more than him being able to celebrate with us. Once dinner was over we headed to the field.

We walked around the park seeing all there was to see. We stood in the ballon line for a while so the kids could get their balloons. B got a Baseball hat and A picked a flower. We watched a small group sing for a bit on the field and just enjoyed our time together. A

got to meet Ferrous the Iron Pig which she was pretty excited about! At the game we went to last time she met FeFe but we missed Ferrous. So, she was pretty stocked to cross meeting him off her list. B, on the other hand, wanted to part in a photo with Ferrous – ha!

Once it was time for fireworks, the show began and we had a nice few on the field where we sat. Daddy even surprised us all with some Kettle Corn to enjoy! We weren’t sure where to sit so we initially started on the first base outfield and moved closer to first base to see the actual show. They did a great job with the fireworks and the kids were captivated!

Fourth on the Field was a success and 4th of July 2017, our first in PA, was a great time!
