Kansas
We spent the last weekend of June in Kansas. We weren’t necessarily planning on a trip to Kansas but we had another loss in the family and needed to attend the funeral of my paternal grandmother. We knew it would be a part ofour year, it was just an uncertainty of when. We hopped on a plane late Wednesday night and had a four day weekend filled with a funeral and family.
There’s a sweetness of being back home in Kansas with my own family. Kansas, a place I was so ready to spread my wings from, will always hold a place so dear for me. There’s a quiet contentment of being there with the familiarity of my roots and “home”.

We spent most of our visit with no real agenda other than being with family. There were few things we had to do and a lot of time to just soak in our family in the quiet. We spent our time staying with my dad who has property outside the hustle and bustle. Before we left we chatted about all the places to go but we didn’t do any of them because the trip was so short and we just enjoyed that.
We passed our time fishing, exploring some nature, playing with the dogs, and just being present. Seeing my dad has been scarce the last while, outside of his trip here in early June, due to our move and everyone’s schedules. I think the kids just enjoyed being in his presence and he loved being in theirs. There’s just something about watching your parents become grandparents that is sometimes extra sweet, isn’t it?

The kids got to play with their cousins and other family they don’t get to see. They spent hours playing outside and laughing. We spent time with friends of ours that we haven’t seen in a year and a half, picking up where we left off. Our kids played for hours and enjoyed each other’s company. We even got to have a little party for B’s second birthday that we didn’t think we would get to had we not come to Kansas.
Our trip, while unfortunate circumstance wise, was a good one. It was laid back and what we needed to disconnect a bit. Sometimes we need to disconnect even when didn’t realize it.
Until next time, Kansas. Thanks for being so good to us.

It definitely was a blast! And from the sounds of it, the kids are ready for us to move close together 😉
