America on Wheels
America On Wheels in Allentown, was somewhere we had heard a lot of good things about. So during my granddad’s stay, we decided to make it one of our stops. We had a nice picnic down the street at a park and then headed to the antique automobile museum.
We were impressed with the variety of exhibits within the museum. It’s well laid out and accessible to everyone trying to come and go. Exhibits include the very first automobiles and the “firsts” of automobiles including carriages and the first electric car. They also have a large truck exhibit that displays the first of Mack Truck, closed and open cab trucks. This exhibit also had an interactive experience where you can “experience” riding in the cab of a tractor trailer cab. The kids had a great time. Within this exhibit you also get to experience a vintage UPS truck, as well as, view a variety of self-propelled and motorized bikes.
The upstairs had displays set up for the Pony Cars and did an excellent job displaying the changes over the years and how they’ve changed over the years. We all enjoyed looking at how much things have changed over the years and the classics are something all of us enjoy looking at. They also had a nice display of the 50s era of cars. The restoration exhibit was another cool exhibit that walked us through the restoration process of vintage cars. It was one of the last exhibits we experienced and it was neat to see the process broken down. All of us learned something new in that exhibit about the process.

(January – March) Wednesday – Saturday 10-4 • Sunday’s 12-5p
We really enjoyed the exhibits and felt like the attention to detail in the displays were extremely well done. The displays had a great way of pulling you into the era and feel more a part of the original story. It was like a step into time with each display showing the beautiful originality of each thing you looked at. We would certainly go again to the museum and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in cars or history.
