Freedom Fest 2019

We had the best time this last weekend at the Texas motor Speedway at the 2019 Freedom Fest. We surprise the kids by taking them down and letting them know they were going to get to watch some of their favorite artists. We are Messengers, Mandisa, Micah Tyler, Pat Barrett, Austin French, and For King and Country were all there performing.

We knew it would be super hot and we were not sure what to expect for the crowds but we are so happy that we went. It was hot until the storm came through and we were super happy for the cool weather that it brought. The crowds were not terrible either. Next time, I think we would bring a pop up tent for extra shade but otherwise I’m not sure we would’ve changed much.

One of B’s favorite artists is Micah Tyler. He was the artist that he wanted to be sure to meet. He wanted to tell him three things:

“It’s my birthday. You’re the best. You’re my favorite.”

The attendant of the meet and greet let us know that we would not get to do pictures with him but he would do signed up for autographs. We had not purchased anything but B was set on meeting him still. One thing about our sweet B is that he can be very shy but when he has his mind made up on something he is bold and he is certain. So we waited.

We got up to the front and simply told him we had nothing for him to sign but he was B’s favorite and he had something to tell him. He proceeded to tell Micah the things he wanted to and Micah’s face lit up. He said to him “it’s your birthday?!” We told him that his birthday had just passed, was this last Wednesday and he had turned four. Micah reached into his pocket and pulled out to guitar picks. He told the kids that he had just used them on his performance that day, signed them and handed one to both A and B. as you can imagine B was over the moon.

My favorite part of the day, hands down, was meeting We are Messengers. If you’ve been reading here long, you know that I have left the experience working in the music industry and meeting lots of celebrities. I can tell you with certainty, We are Messengers is one of the most humble and kind bands I’ve ever met. Darren gives you his full attention and truly radiates the feeling that he wants to be with his fans. He even came over and commented on my Instagram post.

Their performance that evening was fantastic. We’ve seen all of their music videos but seeing them perform live really just brought the heart and soul of who We are Messengers is. Darren talking about his song “maybe it’s OK” literally brought tears to my eyes. I very much admire the heart and transparency they bring with their music. Hands-down, they are one of our all-time favorite artists without question.

We finished up the night with Mandisa and For King and Country. Both performances were charismatic and powerful. Mandisa brought her bubbly and high energy to the stage and the kids were up singing and dancing!

For King and country was as awesome as we expected. They bring a very strong and powerful presence to their performance. Ryan was extremely impressed by their percussion talents. We listen to many of their songs consistently as they resonate greatly with us. It was a really awesome opportunity to get to see them.

We had such a good day. The kids have been asking to listen to the artist lineup every day since we went to the show. It was such a cool opportunity and I’m so grateful we got to experience everything that we did. It was certainly an experience I don’t think any of us will ever forget and definitely not something I want to say we took for granted!
