Strawberry Picking

A couple of weeks ago, we decided to head to the local strawberry farm. Since we’ve lived in PA, we have taken the opportunity to really dive into local experiences with the kids. We have a lot of local farms around here and we’ve really enjoyed experiencing them.
Last year, we experienced apple picking for the first time and picking out our own Christmas tree. We also found a local dairy we enjoy getting raw milk from. Last year we talked about letting the kids pick their own berries but never quite made it happen. So this year we did.
The local “Lehigh Valley Fruit and Vegetable farm” had their annual Strawberry Festival. We enjoyed the park across the road for lunch and then headed to let the kids pick out berries.
Once we arrived, we got our “Just Picked Berries” box and headed to the rows marked with red flags signifying that they were available for picking. I was certain that since it was halfway through the second day of the festival it would be slim pickings. I was wrong.
There was an abundance of berries. We went half way down a row and worked back to the front. The kids learned that we don’t pick the green ones because they weren’t quite ready after a few times. Soon we couldn’t see the bottom of the box. We had ripe, red strawberries perfect for eating. A carried the box all the way back to the front to ring out.
Despite being hot and sticky from the summer sun, we had a lovely time picking the strawberries. The kids have even asked to do it again already. We’ve since eaten all of the strawberries we bought with breakfasts, in smoothies and more. The kids loved they fact THEY picked out all of the berries we were eating!
Another memory in the memory bank.✔️
