You’re Allowed to Change Your Mind

I know things feel harder right now in a lot of ways. Everyone is dealing with a different challenge right now. Challenges are normal but the current stage of the country makes things feel harder. So I want to remind you – whatever choices you’re facing right now, it’ll be okay and the decisions you make right now can be “right now with the best options you have”. They don’t have to be the final choice.

You don’t need my permission but I’m going to give it to you anyways: you’re allowed to change your mind.

You’re allow to go from one absolute belief to a new one. I don’t care if it’s what you think the best detergent is, your vaccine stance, who you’re friends with, which route you start the year for school, your stance on a business model, or if it’s your political party. It’s okay to change your mind.

We get more information. We grow and change. What matters to us evolves. So, let’s give ourselves some grace and remember the choice or belief doesn’t have to be the final, forever line in the sand.

Let’s also remember that even the prettiest Instagram feeds with the “most perfect life” have battles they’re fighting and decisions to be made, too. They have a life outside of social media rectangles and squares that they might not be choosing to share. (Ahem, I just showed up in my IG feed and stories nearly daily for months w/o anyone knowing we were pregnant – so that should give you a nice reality that there is life outside the social media squares). Their list might look more similar to yours than you think. They might have some decisions figured out that you don’t and vice versa. We’re all a lot more like than it feels sometimes.

So as we finish out this week in the weird, trying, and extra cumbersome times – let’s lend some grace to ourselves and others, take a deep breathe, and know it’ll be okay. It really, really will.
