Settling In.

The sun is shining in the window this morning and the morning light is hitting my table as I sit here to write.  Pennsylvania seems to be more cloud and dreary rather than sunny. It makes me miss the sunshine we had in Colorado but also makes me appreciate the sun even more when it is out. There’s a lot different about living here in PA but we’re adapting and settling in. 

Our first night here our neighbors came over, introduced themselves and invited us out to supper. That’s the kind of neighborhood we live in. People are always out walking their dogs and waving hello. It’s the neighborhood we hoped it would be thus far. Quiet and cozy. The mail truck, school bus and trash & recycling are really the only noses. It’s been a nice change from our last neighborhood.

I remember the first day that I heard the kids playing and enjoying themselves together in our home. Playing is a daily thing but this time it was different, they were playing like they always did back in Colorado. They were playing hospital and the sound placed a whole new level of contentment in my heart. The house has felt like home for a while but there was a greatness in knowing the kids felt it too took it to a whole new level. Everything came together in that moment.

Every week we went to a new grocery store every week to find the one that was our best fit. Now we successfully found the ones we like and ones that remind us of certain places back home. We have figured out where works for us and for what. 

We’ve found a new pediatrician, a new grocery store and a new church.  Everything here had to be chosen new because so many things aren’t here like in Colorado. Think: King Soopers, Papa Murphys, Sprouts – the list goes on and on. I should do a post about all the things that are normal here compared to Colorado. For example – there are Targets but not Super Targets – even the brand new Target isn’t a super Target. 

I like it here. We miss Colorado so much but this adventure will be just fine for now. Pennsylvania reminds me a lot of the eastern part of Kansas.Foliage is everywhere. You can be in the middle of the city but feel in the middle of nowhere. It seems there is a lot of history over here, lots of neat things to see as you drive around. There is a quaintness about this area. I’m really looking forward to doing more exploring this Spring and Summer!

The every day little things are what makes somewhere feel like home for me. It’s the every day routines, the laughter of my little ones, the people inside these walls that I share this life with. It’s the bird feeder outside the front window that the birds finally decided they could eat from. We used to watch the birds eat from the feeder every day at our old home. It’s been so great to have new birds coming again! The kids are loving it and so are we. 

We are almost two months in and we’re settling in just fine.
