2013 was my first year to pick a “word of the year” and the word I chose was Intentional. To be intentional as a wife, a mama, my faith, my words, etc. I put a lot of work into being intentional and I’ve decided really, it’s a life word. Intentional is something I thrive to be every day, no matter the year. When I thought about the word I wanted to choose for 2014. I thought of words like…delegate, because I’ve learned I can’t do it all – contrary to what I first thought. I thought of Grace, because Lord knows I need to give myself a bit of that…but the word I really felt was perfect for this year is,
Being Fully Present in every moment. Soaking in all that they have to offer.
I’m guilty of letting my mind wander to the list of to-dos and not staying completely present and focused on the loner that I’m currently in. I’m guilty of grabbing my phone as I tackle the laundry, making it take a ridiculous time longer than it needs to be. I’m guilty of listening to words that are spoken to me but not always really hearing the words because my mind has wandered to the stressors, to the things I need to do around the house or online; and those speaking to me deserve for me to be completely present. This also means being more aware of my time and organizing it better, and limiting where I spend my time. Less time on technology during times that really matter. Dinner time, play time = technology free time. I’ll be working on being more on track with my time management – being more efficient during nap times and being present in the work I am doing right then and there.
So, here’s to living life with intention and being present in every moment without worry of the past or the future – they don’t matter right now – only this present moment does. Do you have a word of the year? If so, what is it?
My word of the year is hustle. 🙂 I like yours as well, definitely something our generation could afford to do a little more of!
Oooh that’s an excellent word! Hustle – I like that! I need to do some hustling in my productive schedule blocks! 😉
That is a very good word for 2014! Something I need to reflect on as well, but I think I have another word that I need to look for:( I just haven’t completely found it yet. But I am praying for a MUCH BETTER year for me and my marriage! We will keep in touch with this conversation:)
It took some time for me to pick just the right word for the year for me, but when I figured it out it fit like a glove. One will come to you! 🙂
Beautifully said, Kristina! My one-word for 2014 is also Present! I just found your blog via-the link up, looking forward to reading more from you. Happy New Year! 🙂 Michelle, Daydream Believers Designs
Thank you so much for coming by! Excellent word choice 😉
Hope you are off to an AWESOME year being Present!
present is a wonderful word choice… being present in the moment is something that i strive for as well… i can totally relate to having a task take so much longer because i’m looking at my phone… i need to remember to limit my technology in the new year… my time management would be so much more efficient if i did… best wishes in 2014!
It’s so hard! Technology is so relevant we kind of become dependent. I’ve been trying to make a conscious effort to put my phone down and leave it in the other room because I naturally want to pick it up and check emails or social media. It feels weird to leave it because I’m so used to being available all the time – but I think disconnecting is so necessary for my sanity and productivity!
My word is embrace and I picked it for so many of the same reasons. Good luck- we only have right now, let’s make the best of it.
Embrace! That’s an excellent one and one I considered for similar reasons I chose present! And you are absolutely right – right now is the best time!
If I were to chose a word, this would be perfect for me as well, need to be present so badly! Good luck this year being here and now!
Thank you! 🙂
My word for this year is also present for many of the same reasons 🙂 beautifully written! Tawnya @ http://www.littlebabyscarlett.blogspot.ca
Just got back from reading your post! Your daughter is darling, and our reasons are so similar! Here’s to being present! 🙂
“wherever you are, be all there” – Jim Elliot. A good way to live life, indeed. Good luck! 🙂
That’s an EXCELLENT quote! I’m writing that down and hanging it immediately!
