A Few Hours at the Farm
We drove up the rocky drive and walked back to the barn. There were animals everywhere – sheep and their baby lambs by the dozen, rabbits and ducks among other exotic birds, a few rams and a horse. Growing up in country side Kansas I was in heaven. Ryan looked at me and said “If I’d allow it this is what our property would look like too!” He was right, absolutely right. I was standing there in my element. I loved having animals growing up – we had horses, cats, dogs, bearded dragons, rabbits, a peacock, cows – and really that’s just the start. I credit my parents for my love of animals because they were always nurturing my love of animals through my childhood. We went to fairs and had other friends with additional animals. I was so thrilled that A was getting to experience the animals first hand like I did growing up. We saw so many new born baby lambs, she got to pet them and interact. She had the opportunity to feed one of the babies but opted to just watch me do it. “Hi Mamas! Hi Babies!” She would say as we walked around with the mama sheep and their lambs. My girl, a devout animal lover like myself, was on cloud nine. She smiled and giggled and laughed with pure joy and giddiness that she was seeing animals up close and interacting.

Every time I would look over at Ryan I would see him interacting and enjoying all of the time with the animals too. I think a tiny part of him would love a property filled with sweet animals, just like I would, although he didn’t grow up with it. He had dogs growing up and lived in the city, so a farm full of animals really wasn’t in his cards. Maybe that’s what makes us so great, the difference that cause me to end up a little more grounded because I’m with him and difference that cause him to hop out of his comfort zone a little bit because I encourage him to do crazy things. I have him pretty convinced on chickens soon 😉
We had such a nice time letting A experience the farm animals for a little bit. The end of our visit we had a beautiful sunset to give us a wave goodbye to accompany our full hearts. It was so nice of the sweet lady, Elaine, that my grandma quilts with us to let us come and visit. She even said in a few weeks when the newborn baby bunnies are bigger we could come back. So fun!
