2015 Halloween Recap

After becoming a mom I became a sucker for traditions. If there’s a holiday that can have traditions, I am all about it. Halloween is one of those holidays. Thus far, every year I’ve let A pick what she wants to be and I make her a costume. Her first year she was an owl, last year she was a monkey and this year she chose a zebra. I never stress about the costume, I just get creative and crafty and freestyle it and hope it turns out okay. Thus far, I’ve gotten lucky. So that’s exactly what I did this year again, I found fleece we had, and a black jacket, a white jacket and some black fleece and went all out. Always about half into a project I second guess if I should even be making a costume or should scrap it and buy something instead but it never fails, I always end up with a excited little girl that doesn’t care her costume is less than perfect and that’s a win in my book. 

Last year we discovered a Trick or Treat Street put on by the local 4H group and the local high school so we wanted to make sure we made it there again this year. Last year we took the kids’ great grandparents and this year we went with Oma, Opa and Aunt Kylie (my mom, stepdad and sister).  We planned to have a funfilled day with a pumpkin patch adventure too but the pumpkin patch was closed due to mud…which I can’t even wrap my head around because that’s silly to me and it was the weekend before Halloween but I digress. We had a great time at the trick or treat street and did dinner at our house. It was a successful day.Since we struck out on the pumpkin patch the year before and we had gone every year since she was born we decided to hit the pumpkin patch. We tried out the Fritzler Farms and had a great time! They had so many fun activities and we got super lucky that’s she two for a couple more weeks because she got to do everything for free. They had a barrel train and she had the best time going on that with Ryan!  I was so thrilled to let her pick out her own pumpkins in a real patch. The last couple years we have gone to a place that has pumpkins already picked but growing up I always went to the pumpkin patch fields and picked my pumpkin. We had so much fun going through the field and A riding in the wheel barrel! 

Halloween week we made bats, pumpkin shaped sugar cookies and iced them and carved a pumpkin! A wasn’t a big fan of carving the stuff out of the pumpkin but she was all about getting all the insides out with a large long handled spoon once it was scraped out! We made a jack o’lantern with a long tongue that she drew. Too funny.  Halloween night A did so good, we got the kid’s costumes on – A the Zebra and B the Polar Bear and had a blast. We got so lucky that the weather wasn’t very cold. A did so good this year. She said “Trick or Treat” at every stop and “thank you”, some even got a bonus “Happy Halloween”. Last year she was so shy that she rarely said much at each door but she was loving it so much this year. She would randomly stop sit down on the lip of the sidewalk and go “I need a snack” and dig into her candy. Life with this girl is so funny. 

B hung out in the ring sling all night, took a little nap and just went with the flow. We had a great Halloween. We loved holidays before but gosh with kiddos it makes it even more fun than ever before!
