Frozen in Time with KiiPix
There is just something about being able to hold something between your fingers. It’s like the written word for me, there’s something tangible about holding the pages in between my fingers and holding a pen in my hand. As much as I love the digital world, there is just something irreplaceable about it.
I feel the same way about pictures. I love being able to take a photo in an instant with my phone to capture a moment but truth be told, usually they stay right on my phone. The extra step of getting them printed seems to be a point the imagery doesn’t reach but every so often.
I was recently introduced to a product that bridges that gap, thanks to TOMY. TOMY just released a new product called KiiPix where digital modern technology meets the retro feel of instax film in an instant. Thanks to TOMY, I received one to take it for a spin.
We recently brought it full circle with a letter to A’s friend. As most of you know, we moved from Pennsylvania to Texas just two weeks ago. We used our new KiiPix to find some of her favorite pictures with her friend, Carmen to include in the letter. We scrolled through my phone, found an image, then placed it on top of the KiiPix within the frame. With a quick press of the “Shutter” button and a crank of the “print” button we had one picture printed and was ready for the next.
With quick ease, we had images to stick inside her letter for her best buddy 1300 miles away. The prints bring that retro feel with the slightly faded look of the images on the Instax film and A felt empowered that she could be involved in the process. I can’t say that it replaced the need for printed images at your local print store, but adding this to our home has been a fun item to have around.
The KiiPix doesn’t take ink and doesn’t need charged either. It does take Instax Mini film which seems to be priced at an average of about $15 for two 10 image packs, depending on where you purchase your film. This feels pretty affordable to me.
