Bodhi.

I’d like to introduce all of you to our new family member, Bodhi (bow-dee). Lovingly already getting the nickname Bodhi Bear because when he “talks” he sounds like a grizzly bear.

We adopted this sweet boy this last Friday from the local SPCA of Texas. He is about 10 months, is very well mannered, and is a complete dream with the kids. Our Millie girl warmed up to him really quickly and is excited to have another playmate again! I can’t get over how perfect he is for our family.

We weren’t necessarily planning to adopt right away after just moving to Texas but Ryan volunteered at his shelter on Wednesday with work and there was just something about this guy that he couldn’t shake. He sent me a video and I told him to bring that cutie home. Although he didn’t that day, we kept chatting it over.

We went the next day and he wasn’t ready for adoption yet because his old owners had just surrendered him Wednesday. The timing was insane. His intake paperwork said he was surrendered due to family issues but he was house trained and knew basic commands. The staff was super kind and let Ryan spend some time with him even though he wasn’t adoptable yet. Ryan got to play with him for almost an hour.

The shelter doesn’t place holds on dogs but they let us know the moment he was available Friday. We went the moment he was available for us to meet with the kids and Millie. He was bigger than I expected and full of energy. It took a little time for us all to adjust but he calmed down and everyone came around to one another. We quickly decided he was a promising fit for our family.

We brought him home and he settled in nicely and rather quickly. He was actually surrendered as “Teddy” but he wouldn’t acknowledge the name. In fact, he won’t acknowledge it whatsoever, which feels odd they would give him a new name the day they surrendered him but nevertheless we took it as an opportunity to rename him something new. After getting to know him and looking at a few name lists, we went with Bodhi.

Bodhi a dream with the kids. If they are in a room, he wants to be there with them. The kids hug him and snuggle him with no problems, he just sits or lays there taking it all in. He does encourage them to pick up the toys off the floor though because he’s still learning which ones are his toys. 😉 He also loves tummy rubs and treats.

We took him on his first walk this week and he did pretty well but we need a little practice so he doesn’t pull much. I’m not sure he got much leash walking practicing previously so he’s doing great. He’ll get lots of practice around here.

Bodhi, while still a puppy, is a quick very learner. He’s quickly learning what is allowed and what isn’t. He’s loving playing with Millie and she loving it too. She’s been pretty sad since we lost our Rudy in June. So, having a big dog to play with is something she’s enjoying – most of the time. 😉

Welcome to your forever family, Bodhi. You were the perfect unplanned addition and we’re glad you are ours.
